The Hispanic Oral History Collection was created by educator and librarian Irene H. Ruiz while working at the West Branch of the Kansas City Public Library. The 59 interviews collected by Ruiz in the 1970s-1980s document the experiences and stories of longtime west side neighborhood residents. The West Branch was renamed the Irene H. Ruiz Bibloteca de las Americas in honor of her service to Kansas City’s Hispanic community.
