1940 Tax Assessment Photographs

Photograph of a man holding a tax assessment placard in front of a home, flanked by two children

In 1940, over a period of eight months, more than 58,000 images of Kansas City structures were photographed and assembled as the 1940 Tax Assessment Photograph Collection. View buildings, homes, stores, shops, banks, schools and parks which, all together, convey a sense of what life was like in Kansas City at that time.

A standalone website for the collection has been established at KC1940.org, which will allow you to browse and locate blocks and buildings on interactive maps.
