Article describes how "Black Judaism" grew out of a congregation in Lawrence, Kansas, called Church of God and Saints of Christ (COGASOC). The COGASOC congregation was founded in 1896 by a former slave, William Saunders Crowley, the "father of Black Judaism," who also created satellite tabernacles throughout Kansas.
