A marker will be placed near Fifth Street and Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas, to honor the site where the two oldest continuously operating black churches west of the Mississippi River began services 129 years ago. ..The First A.M.E. Church is now at Eighth Street and Nebraska Avenue; the First Baptist Church, headed by Reverend E. A. Freeman, is at Fifth Street and Nebraska Avenue.
