Illustrations and biographical article about Charles Nichols, or Kid Nichols, 77-year-old "assistant manager of the Pla-Mor bowling alleys" and a former pitcher for the Boston National baseball team starting in 1890. Born in Wisconsin in 1869 and coming to Kansas City in 1881 with his parents and becoming a player for the Kansas City Cowboys in 1887 before joining the Boston team and returning to Kansas City in 1902 as manager of "the Kansas City Western Association club," then working in real estate, motion pictures, and automobile sales, as well as organizing the first bowling league in Kansas City in 1892.

Page 49: "Nichols pitched and won games on three successive days in three different towns. It was in 1892. Nichols won a game from St. Louis, played in the old ballyard at [15th Street] and Montgall in Kansas City as a part of a big convention program in the city."
