[S]ketch of slavery conditions in Missouri in its territorial days, starting in 1745 with 10 slaves and somewhere between many hundreds and many thousands of slaves by 1800. Description of the importation of black slaves, increasing until "about 1818 due to constitutional questions arising over Missouri statehood, and description of laws and practices from the 1700s and early 1800s regarding slave codes, taxation, civil rights, rights to leave plantations, rights to buy and sell, criminal laws, social customs, manumission, and opinions on slavery in 1820.
