Photo and biographical article about "Pierre Louis Vasquez, known simply as Louis Vasquez" (1798-1868), a part Spanish and French mountain man and explorer "born into one of the first families of St. Louis" as a son of Spanish-born Benito Vasquez. Portrait and description of his life as a fur trader in partnership with Jim Bridger involved with Indians, the construction and operation of Fort Bridger, and retirement in Westport in the 1850s. Also biographical sketches of several other mountain men in the article.
