Page 21: "The first grain elevator to be built [in Kansas City] was started in 1871 by H. J. Latshaw and R. W. Quade. Its capacity was 100,000 bushels. Built mostly of wood, it cost $22,000. Among the first elevators was one owned and operated by J. K. Davidson, a future president of the Kansas City Board of Trade."
