Description
Article has photographs and includes many excerpts from newspapers of the time describing the storm and tornado that ripped through Richmond in 1878. Among the places destroyed was the old cemetery, now called Pioneer Cemetery, where many of the large locust trees were uprooted and fell on tombstones. The storm also is remembered for destroying the home of David Whitmer, a witness of The Book of Mormon, but leaving the trunk with The Book of Mormon manuscript free from harm.
