Biographical sketch of John Crowe, "organizer and promoter of the J. R. Crowe Coal Mining Company." He was born in Ohio in 1858, moving to Weir City, Kansas, in 1884 and engaged in coal, zinc, and lead mining in Kansas and Missouri. He established his own company in 1897 and became "president of the Whitehead Coal Mining Company and of the Cherokee Coal Mining Company."
