Description
'The American Royal was given its name after Dean C. F. Curtiss, dean of agriculture at the Iowa State College of Agriculture, compared the show favorably with the British Royal Agricultural Fair. The Daily Drovers Telegram agreed, proclaiming on January 1, 1901, 'Call it the American Royal.' That year, Galloway and Shorthorn cattle were shown as well as the Herefords.'' Previous to the name ''American Royal,'' the show was called the National Hereford Exhibition.
