Portrait and biographical sketch of Dr. George Maughs (1823-1895), mayor of Kansas City in 1860 and a native of Virginia coming to Kansas City about 1855 as a physician with offices on Main Street between 2nd and 3rd Streets and residence at 5th and Wyandotte Streets. Also "a Secessionist sympathizer" and partner of Dr. Theodore Case as publishers of "a short-lived medical journal called 'The Kansas City Review of Medicine and Surgery' at the time he was mayor."
