Description
Obituary for William "PeeWee" Summers, noted Kansas City area basketball referee. Summers was the first African-American student at William Jewell, and competed in basketball, baseball, and track. After graduating, he developed a career in insurance and employment training, but refereed for local sporting events throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He went on to call major-college games in the Missouri Valley and Big Eight conferences. He died at the age of 71 on April 13, 2014.
