Abraham Lincoln, 16th President of the United States, is shown at his inauguration, March 4, 1861. Chief Justice Roger Brooke Taney, who wrote the Dred Scott decision, stands with raised hand as he administers the oath of office. History tells us that before Lincoln took office a disunion crisis was upon the country. A month before the inauguration the Confederate States of America had been formed by delegates meeting in Montgomery Ala. On Feb. 8, 1861, a Confederate constitution was adopted and the following day Jefferson Davis was elected president. Fort Sumter was fired upon and taken the following April 11, 1861. It was the beginning of Abraham Lincoln's presidency. The rare 1907 post card is one of a Lincoln's birthday set, published by Raphael Tuck & Son, art publishers for the king and queen of England. Kansas City Times, February 10, 1973.
