biographical/historical
For 53 years Children's Mercy hospital has cared for ailing children in the red-brick building with the white pillars at 1710 Independence avenue. The words on the cornerstone have been followed: This hospital for sick and crippled children to be forever nonsectarian, nonlocal and for those who cannot pay. Soon it will be moving day for Mercy hospital's young patients. December 17 will see them in their magnificent new 7-million-dollar home atop Hospital Hill at Twenty-fourth and Robert Gillham road. Kansas City Star, December 5, 1970.
