Crowd waits before the locked gate at the criminal court building where the murder trial of Mrs. Myrtle Bennett takes place. Mrs. Bennett shot and killed her husband John G. Bennett on September 29, 1929, in a quarrel over a bridge game. She was acquitted. Photograph with others of the Bennett trial, but it appears this one was not published.

March 6, 1931, "Kansas City Journal-Post" features a photo of George Cauthen with this caption: "George Cauthen, Journal-Post photographer, who was cursed and struck by former Sen. James A. Reed last night after he had taken a picture in the criminal court room where the Bennett trial was held. Cauthen, who is 30 years old, made no attempt to strike back at Reed, who is 69." It is assumed from this that Cauthen was the photographer of the photographs of the Bennett trial.
