Although M.A.L. is written on the back of the photo, it is believed to be M.L.A. In November 1944, the Missouri State Teachers Association met in Kansas City along with several other related groups, including the Missouri Library Association. According to "The Times," November 1, 1944, "The Missosuri Library association [sic] will open its forty-fourth annual conference at the Hotel Continental this morning." Reported in "The Times" on November 3, 1944, the library director of the Kansas City Public Library, Librarian Harold L. Hamill, was elected president of the association.
