Lew Perkins announced that he would retire as Kansas Athletic Director as of September 4, 2011. Perkins came to KU from Connecticut in 2003 and recently hired Turner Gill as football coach after launching an investigation on former coach Mark Mangino. Perkins' announcement comes in the midst of the uncertainty of the future for the Big 12 Conference. The article includes a timeline of Perkins' career at KU.
