Native Kansas Citian starting out here at such nightclubs as the Sunset Club and working with Count Basie and Bennie Moton before leaving for New York City in the late 1940s, recording fellow Kansas Citian Jesse Stone's 1954 hit "Shake, Rattle and Roll."
