Description
The Martin City Melodrama, a local theater group known for satire and vaudeville, is going to make a place in Lee's Summit, Missouri, its home. "The nonprofit group and community leaders are discussing a $3.6 million plan for adapting a city building--Arnold Hall on Third Street across from City Hall--into a theater with seating for at least 300." The Martin City Melodrama was started in 1985 by Jeanne Beechwood. It presented original adaptations of literary classics and vaudeville type revues as family entertainment. For many years the group was located in the Martin City neighborhood at 135th and Holmes Road. Currently it is located in the Metcalf South Shopping Center, doing mainly children's shows.
