The author, Johnny Boggs, references several motion pictures produced about the Dalton gang and each one's various endings. Boggs sets out "to learn what really happened" and takes the reader on a journey through Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Kansas and the gang's robberies. Four of the Dalton brothers were killed during the attempt to rob two banks in Coffeyville, Kansas, in 1892.
