When it opened on Dec. 7, 1934, it was said to be the world's largest drugstore at 20,000 square feet--a claim the owners substantiated for many years. It was dubbed a 'super service store' with its 29 cash registers, car attendants to assist in parking and carrying bags to cars, a parking lot with 300 spaces, and air conditioning. Katz grew to 65 stores in seven states before it merged with Skaggs Drug Company in 1971.
