The 1904 Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis [also called the 1904 World's Fair], commemorating the Louisiana Purchase and American westward expansion, was particularly explicit and even shameless in its promotion of American values and Yankee ingenuity. That it followed on the heels of the Spanish-American War and America's acquisition of its first colonies only reinforced this self-promotion.
