Photo and bio of Thomas Smart (1806-1879), a merchant native to Virginia arriving in Jackson County in 1834 (with his brother James Smart) before building a log store on the Levee in Kansas City in 1836 and a house about 1839 on his land bounded by 11th, 12th, Main, and Grand Avenue (later bought mostly by Thomas Swope in 1857). Description of his careers as a Missouri state representative and Jackson County judge.
