Photos and biographical description of Tom Pendergast (1872-1945), a resident of southern Kansas City (on Ward Parkway) and political boss of the city as a whole in the 1920s-1930s. Native of Saint Joseph coming to Kansas City in the 1890s as a bouncer in his older brother's West Bottoms saloon before becoming owner of the T. J. Pendergast Wholesale Liquor Company, Ready Mixed Concrete Company, and the Jefferson Hotel, with huge gambling debts on horse racing, etc.
