Description
First of three articles to be published in honor of the opening of the Bloch Building at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This article mentions a couple of society events held at the time of the opening of the Nelson Gallery of Art in 1933. Lord Duveen of Millbank had made a donation to the museum in 1931 and came in 1933 and stayed with Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Nichols. Mrs. Shields resided at 5110 Cherry and hosted a tea for him. A buffet supper was hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Harvey, Mr. Harvey being the grandson of Fred Harvey. Items in the "Indian rooms" were donated/loaned by this family. Article includes photographs including one of the art gallery under construction.
