Portrait and biographical description of Williard Hall, governor of Missouri during one year of the Civil War after Governor Gamble's death, born at Harper's Ferry, Virginia, in 1820 and arriving in Missouri about 1841 and settling in Saint Joseph as a lawyer in 1842, then assigned by Alexander Doniphan "to draft a code of laws for New Mexico" after the Mexican War, and becoming a national representative.
