Description
Sallie Threlkeld was the first woman teacher hired by the Kansas City schools, first teaching at Lathrop School for nine years. She moved to Humboldt School and taught another nine years before becoming "principal of Emerson School in 1890 where she remained until she retired in 1902." Prior to being hired by the Kansas City schools, she taught in a private school for 12 years. She is buried in Union Cemetery.
