Description
Belle Maison, one of the first Clay County homes placed on the National Register, is now up for sale. It is located at 404 S. Leonard Street in Liberty, Missouri and believed to have been built in the 1880s by a steamboat captain. "The builder molded the brick in front to create rounded curves rather than right angles on the veranda's exterior. Its handcrafted brick came from a kiln about a half-mile south of the property." The style is related to the Octagon Mode which was popular in the 1850s and 1860s. Because the house was owned by Nancy Clinton beginning in the late 1890s, it has been referred to over the years as the Clinton Home. The house was named "Belle Maison du Cheminee" in the 1970s by owners Rudolf and Virginia Eskridge. The asking price now is $189,500. Includes a picture of the front of the home.
