Roots of the Border War

Article describes the history of the "border war" between Kansas and Missouri and examines the current economic battle taking place as municipalities in both states offer tax breaks and other incentives to lure companies across the State Line. This has been done despite that fact, some community leaders argue, that these cross-border incentives yield little return in the way of new job creation and economic development. For that reason, Missouri senator Ryan Silvey has proposed legislation that seeks to prohibit cross-border incentives in the nine counties that comprise the Kansas City Metropolitan area.
