Photo and bio of Robert Thompson Van Horn, or Robert Van Horn ("The Grand Old Man of Kansas City"), "newspaper writer, soldier, statesman and, above all, student and philosopher." Born in Pennsylvania in 1824 and coming to Kansas City in 1855 as a newspaper owner and editor, later becoming a Union colonel in the Civil War, mayor of the city, and a national representative in Congress.
