Mention and footnote about brothers John Calvin McCoy and Dr. Rice McCoy as surveyors with their father Isaac McCoy of "a military reservation of about eleven sections of land, including the small post called Cantonment Leavenworth" in 1830. John McCoy also noted as the active surveyor "of the Cherokee outlet, called the 'Cherokee Strip,'" completed in 1837.
