The author of this "As I See It" column in the Kansas City Star is Inez Y. Kaiser. Her intent in the piece is to mention African American women who were "firsts" in Kansas City. That includes herself, saying "as the president of Inez Y. Kaiser & Associates Inc., the first and oldest African-American female-headed public reltions firm in the country...first black firm to open an office in the former City National Bank in downtown Kansas City". She also states that she was the first African American member of the local Chamber of Commerce and that Lisa Rivera was the first African-American female to join the Women's Chamber of Commerce. She also states that "Shirley Helzberg and I were the first minorities to have membership in the American Women in Radio and Television".
