Feature story about the Country Club Plaza InterContinental Hotel, originally the Alameda Plaza Hotel when it opened in 1972. It was Kansas City's only American Automobile Association's (AAA) five-star hotel. "The Alameda name was retired in 1990 when the hotel became the Ritz-Carlton. The Ritz, in turn, became the Fairmont in 2000 and, finally, the InterContinental in 2005." This luxury hotel has recently been refurbished to be more in line with the former Alameda's refined Mediterranean style. There are 366 guest rooms and each includes Kansas City scenes by local photographers Mike McMullen and Kevin Sink. The article includes several color photographs of the interior of the hotel.
