A distinctive style of jazz, represented by Count Basie, Lester Young and Mary Lou Williams represents Kansas City. Groups profiled in the chapter are: The Twelve Clouds of Joy, Walter Page's Blue Devils, The Bennie Moten Orchestra, The Count Basie Orchestra Jay McShann and Charlie Parker.
