Biographical sketch of Phoebe Couzins (1845-1915), the first professional woman lawyer in the nation, establishing in the Women's Franchise Organization in 1869 and graduating from Washington University in 1869, the first university of its kind to admit women. Description of her career as an early anti-war and pro-feminist lawyer, appointed as the first United States marshal in the nation in 1887.
