Stephen C. Ragan was born in Kentucky in 1823 and died in this City in 1909. He was one of the most noted of the pioneer teachers in this County and held various offices both elective and appointive. He was a veteran of the C. S. A., a son of Jacob Ragan, a grand-son of the Revolution; the father of Dr. S. H. Ragan, a veteran of the Spanish-American service, and the grand-father of two World War veterans. The fighting Ragans, they may well be called.
