Order No. 11 was issued on August 25, 1863,by Brigadier General Thomas Ewing and expelled the residents of Jackson, Cass, and Bates Counties who were not living within one mile of specified military posts. The author explores the conflict leading up to it and the effect of the order on the western part of the state of Missouri.
