Description
Article concerning the northeast area of Kansas City, Missouri. This district is located south of the Missouri River and is "bounded by the Paseo on the west and Interstate 435 on the east, Gladstone Boulevard on the north and Truman Road on the south." Parts of the area were annexed in 1873 and in 1885. Seven neighborhoods comprise the area: Lykins, Indian Mound, Scarritt Renaissance, Pendleton Heights, Independence Plaza, Sheffield and Columbus Park (sometimes referred to as the North End). In the early years of Kansas City, this area was the home of wealthly Kansas Citians and many of their grand homes are still standing. Currently the area is known for its diverse ethnic make-up.
