Description
Photo and bio of Reverend Nathan Scarritt (1821-1890), an anti-slavery minister and "benefactor" of Kansas City. Native of Illinois moving to Fayette, Missouri in 1845 before becoming a teacher in 1848 at "the Indian Manual Labor School in the Shawnee country, Indian Territory." Principal of the Westport high school starting in 1852, school teacher in Kansas City in 1864-1865, pastor of several area churches, and real estate investor owning land on the later Scarritt Point in Northeast Kansas City.
