File containing a photo and biographical article about General Meriwether Jeff Thompson, or Meriwether Thompson (1826-1876), a Confederate soldier in Missouri earning the nickname of "Swamp Fox" for his Civil War swamp maneuvers in southeastern Missouri. Native of Harper's Ferry moving to Saint Joseph, Missouri in 1847 as a "dry goods clerk" before becoming "railroad president and mayor the city" during the opening of the Hannibal & Saint Joseph Railroad and Pony Express there.
