Photo and bio of Daniel O'Flaherty, "one of the city's pioneer civil engineers." Born in West Virginia in 1841 and coming to Kansas City in 1857 before being appointed assistant city engineer in 1886 and "elected County Surveyor" in 1868, overseeing construction of the East 5th Street road in 1874 and the Kansas City & Eastern railroad.
