Thus we should remember the part that Missouri, and the little town of Westport, had in the gold discovery in California; and also that a Missourian, James W. Marshall, was the first to detect the shining gold particles in the mill-race; and, moreover, that the mill, itself, was built by Billy Baldridge, of Independence, another Missourian.
