Description of Lovejoy as the founder and editor of an "abolitionist newspaper called The Observer" in 1833 and killed for its views expressed in 1837. Description of Gilpin as editor of the Argus "(afterwards territorial governor of Colorado)," writing "an abusive article" leading to the death of its owner, Andrew Jackson Davis.
