Description
Historical overview of breweries in Missouri during the pre-Prohibition age and their revival in the 1970s. In the first two decades of the 1900s, Kansas City had more than forty breweries, but after Prohibition, only about a dozen were left in all of Missouri. The easing of the federal government home-brewing laws in the 1970s started a beer revolution. By 1989, Missouri's first microbrewery, Boulevard Beer, opened in Kansas City. The McCoy's Public House at Kansas City won a bronze medal at the 2001 Great American Beer Festival, and at the 2000 World Beer Cup, the 75th Street Brewery at KC won a bronze medal for its Golden Pilsner. The article includes a photo of Parkville's Power Plant Restaurant and Brewery and the 75th Street Brewery in KC as well as a listing of Missouri Brew Pubs and their addresses.
