Article examines the history of tailgating at Arrowhead Stadium and also concerns by long-time tailgaters that the tradition may not be carried on my younger Chiefs fans. Tailgating started at Arrowhead in 1988 when Chiefs president Carl Peterson and owner Lamar Hunt, in an effort to sell more tickets, encouraged fans to arrive early and created a pre-game party atmosphere in the parking lot. Since then, other NFL franchises have followed the Chiefs' lead in embracing tailgating at their stadiums.
