Book is a collection of 27 chapters prepared by Shalor Eldridge giving his account from a free state perspective of the days and events in the territorial days of Kansas up to and including Sterling Price's Missouri raid. Topics covered include border warfare incidences, sacking of Lawrence and the Lawrence Massacre, the Civil War, early politics in Kansas, etc. Book includes a good index as well as an appendix giving information on Eldridge and his family. It also contains a reprint of his obituary as it appeared in the Kansas City Star, January 16, 1899.
