Description
Photos and article about the State Federation of Women's Art Clubs in Kansas, founded in 1900 in Topeka by women from 10 different African American women's clubs. The federation was expanded in scope and size of membership to quickly go "beyond the artwork which dominated the initial meetings" to other issues of civil rights, social services, and "involvement in national projects and contact with the leading Afro-American women of the era." History of the African American women's clubs pre-dating the federation and participating in the founding of it is also given, including the Ladies' Refugee Aid Society in 1864 in Lawrence, etc.
