Photo and bio of Leona Pouncey Thurman, or Leona Thurman (1911-1985), "the first black woman to practice law in Kansas City." Native of Arkansas coming to Kansas City in 1931 as a legal secretary before becoming a lawyer herself in 1949, "chairman of the women's division of the World's Peace Through Law Center," and leader in the revitalization effort in the 18th and Vine District with offices at 1505 East 18th Street.
