Building on 8th and Oak Streets opened in September 1889 as a library. New library building opened on 9th and Locust Streets on September 1, 1897. Gift of $25,000 to the Kansas City Public Library given by George Sheidley (1835-1896) for the purchase of books in 1897. According to the local history index card, George Sheidley was born on February 22, 1835 and died on March 2, 1896.
